Hi Chris. Glad I’m here and thrilled to see the new stuff coming.
Glad to see this up and running.
Hi @tonyclewis, @reconwireless, and the rest of the familiar “faces” I see!
~M
I head about this forum today from @Crosstalk.Solutions video. I’ve been starting to look at some PBX options and always interested in open source. I’m currently researching to replace the IP phone system through a local provider and the IP phone service through Spectrum for the volunteer fire dept I’m a member of to start my journey on IP phones.
Currently FreePBX is a good bet for this (I’d stay away from v17 though as it’s general release but not fully baked IMHO and 16 is near EOL) with trunking and other services by ClearlyIP. If time isn’t of the essence you may want to wait a few weeks to see what develops here.
Whichever way you go though I can highly recommend ClearlyIP for trunking, phones etc. We work with them for all our clients and their support at every level is just awesome and they have many ways to accomplish what you want whether it be full open source or their cloud based/on premise commercial offerings.
If going with FreePBX, @Crosstalk has a great youtube video series on FreePBX15 setup but it still applies to V16.
Glad to be a part of this great effort

A little late to the party, but I’m glad to see some familiar faces. Exciting stuff!
Hey man! long time no see! welcome to the party! happy to be part of this as well ![]()
Hi Mate
Thank you.
Good to see you again.
Hello. I have a question to ask.
Is TangoPBX going to be an PBX server?
Can you give me details of how are y’all going to do with new open source called TangoPBX like why are you building another open source telephony platform, just to be curious
?
I have FreePBX (FreePBX 17). It is my favorite PBX server.
Currently, the things offered by TangoPBX require FreePBX to be installed. One module rebrands the system while the other extends existing features in FreePBX. Which I believe is the goal moving forward with the project.
Okay. The question is, is TangoPBX going to be another PBX server in the future?
In the grand scheme, yes. Isabelle and IncrediblePBX are PBX systems that run on top of FreePBX and we consider them different PBX systems because of the additional stuff they add. It requires the need for FreePBX as the upstream but the end product is not the same overall.
Yes. See the Distro announcement
This is a very welcome direction for the Open Source VoIP, FreePBX and Asterisk communities. The TangoPBX looks very promising. I just downloaded the RC1 and am going to set it up on a test box. The choice of Ubuntu was smart - Ubuntu has very extensive community support and a reliable release schedule. Canonical is actually committed to supporting Ubuntu as an open source project as well. This is greatnews!
TangoPBX looks like a great project - I just downloaded 22.05.0.0.RC1 to test.
Thanks for the forums guys.
