WAN failover & Sip Settings: One way audio

Freepbx version 14. Two WAN connections, Ubiquiti UCG Ultra router. Freeddns dynamic url. Remote phones. Dynamic url is in the SIp Settings (Settings here are set to static for the IP)

Scenario:

Remote phones using the URL and Proimary Wan active. All working OK. Programming and ssh OK
Remote phones using url and Secondary WAN active the phones register, but one way audio, also no programming or ssh connection. Port forwarding is setup for Both WANs and by source IP.

Anyone have any experience with this router ( I have queried Ubiquiti with no answer yet) and using the failover? The failover and URL refresh works fine. The url resolves fine.

Thanks for any ideas as to what is going on

@edlentz interesting , ive been doing dual wan myself for several years - mostly meraki but a few fortinets mixed in as well - one major difference being the systems im referring to are are all in the cloud with a static IP and only the ‘remote’ phones utilize the failover

it sounds like you are referring to a local system behind dual wan - correct ?

when you say no programming I dont exactly follow that ( GUI access? ) but you also mention no ssh … do you mean no remote ssh when failed over to the secondary circuit ?

im not familiar with ubiquiti but it would be interesting to see what a wan and lan capture from that device show when ssh is failing

also what tech is the secondary using - is it mobile or ?

Hi Chris

Yes a local system with a Vreizon Fios as primary and a comcast cable as secondary. No programming is no connection to the GUI and remote ssh connection fails when the router is in failover. In the ubiquiti programming once you get the port and source IP setup you assign both WAN interfaces. One thing we didn’t do was set the WAN IP in Sip settings to dynamic when we put in the URL. Is that an issue? The phone system is running a ddns client to update the URL every minute. Something I didn’t think of until this morning was putting the router in failover, put the secondary WAN IP into sip settings and see what happens. Unfortunately this system is on the east coast and I am in the midwest.

Hi @edlentz

do you have SSH access to the PBX itself? It may be possible there may be an issue with the cached DNS entries on the remote phone resolution or the RTP forwarding to the PBX, this will be visible via a pcap on sngrep, using the command below

sngrep -r

you should be able to install the latest version with this command:

yum localinstall http://packages.irontec.com/centos/7/x86_64/sngrep-1.4.9-0.el7.x86_64.rpm

let us know what do you find

Thanks for the reply

I worked on it last night for a little while. When the primary ISP was down (actually unplugged) the router went into Failover but the port forwarding rules did not apply. They (rules) are programmed for ANY Wan connection. I have a message into Ubiquiti support. Have yet to hear from them
