I am building a system on Version 16 . System on our bench , no TI/PRI circuit to connect to. We installed a Sangoma A101 card. It appears to program. At least the DAHDI config shows it with the correct settings. I am old school and I alway scheck that th ecard is operating with a shorting plug and a patch cable. Looking for the red alarm to go green, proving to me that the card is functional (to a certain extent). Anyway I am not getting that alrm to clear. So my question is: Is this still a good test? I only have a couple of these systems with a T1/PRI card and for all I know the alarm is not triggered by wiring issues, could be that the software needs to see clock timing and such. TIA if you can update my knowledge!
I am not familiar with the A101 card specifically but in most cases the alarm means cable prob. You can assume it’s a cable problem until proven otherwise…and in thirty years I’ve seen less than a dozen proven otherwise. So if you have nothing plugged in but your loopback adapter then I’d say your half inch of “cable” inside or adjacent to the loopback is bad. Is this a premade loopback or something you’ve done up with an RJ45 and exposed wire scraps? If so, check those wires, reterminate them, replace the whole thing as needed and you’ll likely be fine.
Thanks for the reply, I also have seen very few that had issue in my decades of doing this. However this is a replacement card from Sangoma fo on ethat plain didn’t work out of the box. Anyway I am using the plug in the pic with a patch cord. I haven’t found any info yet on this little guy, so is it possible I need a crossover cable? Yes the pins on the back of that are not touching.
Not familiar with that but Ill see what I can find. I’ve had good luck with Networx for example this one. Amazon.com
That little guy (the one I have) came with a T1 card that I put in somewhere. I usually leave them onsite. The one you have is cute. Probably the same usage
We are replacing a FPBX system that has a card in it, (not one that will work in the new cabinet) So if I unplug the old system and plug into the new system I can test and make sure it works before I start the cutover. Doesn’t happen for a couple of weeks yet.
