SOLVED: Setting up Hot Desking with CIP Phones

I’m trying to get hot desking setup for a client. I’ve read the docs but I’m confused on how to setup the physical phones so they allow login/logout.

If I understand the docs correctly, I shouldn’t have to map the physical phones in the Clearly Devices module, if they contact the PBX and find no profile they should default to presenting a login prompt. This does not happen.

I’ve got Hot Desking setup for a test user extension (1097) and I have a LoggedOut extension profile created (1098) so people can dial 911 if a phone is logged out.

I’ve got a separate Template and two model layouts created (one for logged in phones, one for logged out phones).

I’m clearly missing something.

I’ve been able to get this to work but I had to map ALL hotdesk phone mac addresses to the Logout extension first.

I was hoping logging in would change the background image on the phones but that apparently can’t happen without a reboot.

So now my question is, have I understood the docs incorrectly? Is this the proper procedure or have I just found a work around?

Matt at CIP confirmed all the phones to be used for hot desking have to be mapped to the logged out extension initially. So when they first boot they will grab that profile and be ready for login.
