PBX Upgrade Advice: Moving from PBXact 25

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on upgrading my PBX setup. I’ve been running a PBXact 25 for the past 5 years, and it’s become painfully slow.

I was considering the PBXact 60 as a direct upgrade, but I’m wondering if there’s a better alternative out there. Should I stick with the Sangoma ecosystem or move away from the “act” products entirely? From the limited research I’ve done, it seems like the PBXact 60 has had some reliability issues. All of my desk phones are Sangoma S705 models, so I’d prefer to keep compatibility in mind if possible.

On a related note, my current upstream SIP provider is Telnyx. They used to provide solid support, but lately, it’s been a nightmare—they promise to look into issues and then ghost me completely. I’m at the point where I’d like to wipe the slate clean with a fresh PBX system and switch to a new SIP provider that’s more responsive and reliable.

Thanks in advance!

Well it depends on how big your system is, how many extensions etc. but we run dozens of FreePBX16 systems of different sizes on Vultr VMs and use ClearlyIP as our carrier.

ClearlyIP’s tech support is top notch at every level and I talk to them regularly as we set up all of our customers with them as the carrier.

Vultr support is pretty good, no phone support but they do answer support tickets very quickly usually within 1/2hr.

If you must have an on premise hardware setup have a look at what ClearlyIP has to offer. The thing I like about using VM’s is if something does happen you can just spin one back up from a backup in under an hour. If your hardware goes bad it could be a few days minimum.

We’ve been doing VM for our PBX’s for about 8 years and have never had a major issue.
